All About Hollywood Kids

Introducing Hollywood Kids!

Live at the beloved Hollywood Theatre, in the heart of Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood, a community tradition in the making! Introducing Hollywood Kids: a live theatre program and series of monthly theatre performances created by renowned local theatre professionals and featuring the acting talent of local youth. For a program fee of $250, participants will be trained in professional acting and physical theatre skills, then show off what they have learned in a live 50-minute performance at the Hollywood Theatre!

As writer, director, and co-star of each play in the Hollywood Kids series, Gina Bastone will be taking characters and settings from classic fairytales and updating them with topical twists, creating comedies the whole family can enjoy. Beyond the stories themselves, an innovative mixture of on-the-street video sequences and guest appearances from the community will blur the boundaries between everyday Kitsilano and the world of fantasy within the theatre.

Read on to learn about the three parts to each Hollywood Kids session: the audition, the theatre program, and the live performance!

1) Auditions

The audition for the first session of Hollywood Kids was held on Saturday, June 20 – thanks to everyone who came out! We have now selected the cast for the first session.

The next set of auditions will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 10:30-11:30 am at 200-3355 West Broadway in Kitsilano. Pre-register now to guarantee an audition spot!

If we are unable to accept you into the upcoming session, don’t worry! Just indicate in the registration form that you would be interested in later sessions, and we will add your registration to a waiting list

All auditioners who make it past the audition stage will be required to make a non-refundable deposit of $50 before being admitted to their session.

2) Theatre Program

The theatre program consists of a series of workshops and rehearsals led by Gina. Participants will be trained in professional acting and physical theatre skills while learning and rehearsing the play Gina has written for their month’s program, tailored uniquely to the individual cast.

Do note that the program represents a substantial time commitment. Younger cast members are required to attend all weekend rehearsals, while attending all/some of evening rehearsals is preferred but not required. All cast members are asked to please avoid scheduling any other activities in the week before their performance.

We will set a date prior to the first rehearsal by which time cast members must submit the remaining $200 non-refundable program fee to secure their place.
